First Family, Family First follows the Williams brothers, three elite basketball players who all suited up for Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., and earned their way to the collegiate level. But this isn’t the narrative you’ve seen before. Told through the eyes of their parents, this documentary challenges the conventional “hood dreams” archetype that dominates Black basketball stories. The Williams brothers aren’t fighting to escape poverty or dodge the pitfalls of their environment. They come from a place of privilege, stability, and intentional parenting. This is a story about what happens when Black excellence isn’t born from survival, but from expectation. When the hoop dreams aren’t an escape route, but an extension of a family blueprint built on education, discipline, and legacy. First Family, Family First reframes what Black success looks like in America, exploring the pressures, expectations, and quiet sacrifices that come with raising champions, both on and off the court.
